"I'm a Lakeville native and a graduate of the University of Vermont's Honors College where I studied Film and History. My passion for art is reflected in my work as a writer and a filmmaker, and I am excited to be surrounded by the creativity and beauty that will anchor the White Gallery's 2010 season." -- Christine DeAngelis
We mourn the death of our dear friend and magnificent artist, Robert Natkin. For the past six years we have been privileged to represent his work at the Gallery and we have become friends with Robert and his wife, Judy.
We will miss the hours that we spent with him at his studio discussing everything under the sun and just enjoying his company.
Always optimistic, seldom negative, Robert was filled with positive energy. His work reflects those attitudes and will forever be a testament to Robert the "All-American boy."
Our deepest sympathy and love to Judy and the entire Natkin family. Your loss cannot be measured. We will miss his smile, his passion, and most of all his usual end of most conversations: "I love you."
SPRINGFIELD — Robert Kipniss technically isn’t a Wittenberg University alumnus.
He only attended school here for two years before transferring to the University of Iowa, where he earned his degrees.
But he left Springfield with something even more valuable — a sense of purpose.
“It was a wonderful awakening,” Kipniss explained recently. “I don’t know what would’ve become of me had I not gone to Wittenberg.”
For someone who didn’t actually stick around long enough to graduate, you’d be hard-pressed to find a greater champion of Wittenberg than Kipniss, the internationally revered painter and printmaker who returns to his spiritual alma mater for a residency on Monday, April 5.
“When I wasn’t studying,” Kipniss recalled, “I spent a lot of time walking and thinking, ‘What the hell am I going to do with my life, now that I have?one?’ ”
Now 79, the New Yorker who showed up on campus in 1948 as a troubled kid who had been “bored to death in high school” — “Wittenberg was the only school that would take me,” he confessed — would repay the college, and the city, in full for taking a chance on him.
His work, which now is found in the collections of such powerhouse institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Whitney Museum of American Art, has been almost singularly inspired by his time here. [read more]

“A lump of awe, thrill, and humility gathered in my throat as I learned of our show’s winning the Emmy. That Larry Rifkin at CPTV, Connie Simmons and I could see our collective efforts bloom into such recognition startles, stuns, and humbles me. Our show tested the limits of convention, synthesizing a spectrum of history, art, emotion and science in a novel form. This success gives us courage to reach further.” David Dunlop, 2009 [read more]
